Amber | Clean only in warm soapy water, rinse & pat dry. |
Amethyst | See Quartz. |
Azurite | Clean only with cool soapy water. |
Cubic Zirconia | Clean with steamer, ultrasonic, warm soapy water, brush or alcohol |
Coral | Clean gently with soft, clean damp cloth (not soap) |
Citrine | See Quartz |
Diamond | Avoid heat & chemicals on fracture filled diamonds. |
Emerald | Clean with warm water (no soap) & a soft brush |
Garnets | Clean with warm soapy water & soft brush, rinse & dry. |
Haematite | Clean with ultrasonic, steamer, alcohol (vodka) & most chemical cleaners. |
Ivory | Clean with a damp clean cloth & towel dry. |
Iolite | Clean with warm soapy water & soft brush. |
Jadeite | Clean with ultrasonic, steamer or warm soapy water. |
Lapis Lazuli | Clean with warm soapy water and air dry. DO NOT brush, soak or ultrasonic. |
Opal | Clean with a damp soft cloth. DO NOT soak, steam, ultrasonic or use chemicals. |
Malachite | Clean in cool water with a small amount of soft soap. DO NOT soak use chemicals, ultrasonic or steamer. |
Moonstone | Clean only with warm soapy water & a soft cloth. |
Pearls | Clean after wearing with a soft damp cloth. DO NOT ultrasonic, steam or use chemicals. Avoid cosmetics, perfume, alcohol, hair spray & even acidic perspiration. |
Peridot | Clean with warm soapy water & a soft brush. Rinse & dry with a clean cloth. |
Ruby & Sapphire | Almost any cleaning technique is acceptable. |
Quartz & Chalcedony | Includes agate, amethyst, Chrysoprase, citrine, jasper, onyx, rose quartz, tiger eye etc. Clean in warm soapy water. Rinse & dry with a soft cloth. Ultrasonic usually safe. DO NOT steam. |
Spinel | Clean with warm soapy water, alcohol, ammonia, jewellery cleaners. Ultrasonic & steamers usually safe. |
Tanzanite | Clean only in warm soapy water & dry with soft cloth. DO NOT use ultrasonic, steam, acids or brushes. |
Topaz | Clean with warm soapy water, rinse & air dry. DO NOT use ultrasonic or steam. Perfect cleavage – so handle with care. |
Tourmaline | Clean with warm soapy water and a soft brush or alcohol. DO NOT use ultrasonic or steamer. |
